FORM Presents: Annual Fashion Week

Avante-guarde. Chaotic. Inspiring. Vibrant. Revolutionary. These are just some words to describe Fashion Week. For some background, fashion week refers to women and menswear shows that happen bi-annually in February and September in the "Big 4" fashion capitals - New York, London, Milan, and Paris

From the 8th of February to the 16th of February, Fashion Week is coming to the concrete jungle -New York! Raf Simons, Tom Ford, Jeremy Scott, Yuna Yang, Alexander Wang, and many more high profile designers will be taking to the runway to showcase their designs for the Fall/Winter 2018 season. I am definitely going to be checking Instagram and Snapchat (life hack: a front-row view of shows via Kim Kardashian's snapchat story) to see all the trends from this season. NYFW is truly an exciting week and since we can't be in the city to witness the glam, we decided to bring our very own Fashion Week to New Brunswick!

Day 1: Guest Speaker Panel

What is the best way to learn about breaking into the fashion industry other than hearing firsthand about the experiences of those who are already in the industry? Channel your inner Andy Sachs and land a fashion internship to see if the fast-paced fashion world is right for you. FORM is one step ahead and we formed a panel of 3 amazing industry professionals for you to network and ask questions.

Our panel features Camille Suarez, Harshali Patil, and Jasmine Cheung who have worked with fashion, beauty, and tech start-ups in companies from Burlington, Ross, Chanel, L'Oreal, Calvin Klein and more. Come with your questions to the Livingston Student Center Room 201B at 7PM and we can't wait to hear these wonderful women speak about their experiences!

Day 2: Fashion Drawing and Sketching

For any idea, there must always be a blueprint and for fashion design, that blueprint is an initial sketch. For Day 2 of Fashion Week, FORM will be collaborating with the Rutgers Art & Design Club for those who want to create their own sketches of models! Sketch your favorite outfit/winter trends on a female or male silhouette with colored pencils, watercolors, glitter, and other supplies. Bring your creative minds to the Livingston Student Center Room 202AB at 9:15PM

Day 3: Global Fashion Show

In the middle of Fashion Week, FORM will be hosting a Global Fashion Show. Join us for a night of showcasing fashion from all around the world.  We will be teaming up with cultural organizations such as the Association of Punjabis at Rutgers, Caribbean Fusion RU, RU Sif Sangam, and more to bring you cultural clothing that represents the culture of the participating organizations. Rutgers University prides itself in being one of the most diverse universities in the United States so we are very excited to have this as the theme of our fashion show. In addition, all the proceeds from the show will go to Dress for Success, an organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence through providing a network, professional dress, and tools. Get a front row seat at the Red Lion Cafe in the College Avenue Student Center and watch our models walk down the runway at 7PM!

Day 4: Boutique & Thrift Shop Showcase

FORM is partnering with Simuel's Closet, a high-end boutique, and the Second Reform Church Thrift Store to allow students to purchase clothing and also raise awareness about their respective charities. As a plus, 100% of proceeds from the sales of the showcase will be donated to the charities. Thrift stores and boutiques are great and less costly alternatives to buy vintage/more personalized items so get your street style on and come to the Livingston Student Center Room 202C at 7PM to build your trendy, thrifty outfit!

Day 5: Social Media Giveaway

We will be capping our Fashion Week off with an exciting giveaway! Follow us on Instagram and stay tuned for a post about how to enter and win.

We are so excited to be having our Annual Fashion Week next week right here on campus. We are teaming up with many organizations and charities and we hope to see you all there!
